If you are curious about wine and want to know more .. these sessions are for you. Parallel 44 is offering four (4) information packed courses taught by the owners of Parallel 44 Vineyard & Winery. Learn the fun facts about wine making, grape growing, wine appreciation, and food and wine pairing. After each class you will walk away with the knowledge you need to pick the perfect bottle of wine for yourself and your friends.
The dates, times and topics of each course are listed below. Seating is limited to 40 per session and the tuition is $15 per course. (Attend just one course or attend all 4!) Please register as early as possible as seats tend to fill up quickly. The tuition fee includes some course materials and wine sampling.
Course 1: Wine Appreciation 101: Unraveling the Fun Secrets of Wine
Saturday, Jan 30, 2010 from 1-2:30 pm
This course will include a brief lesson on the History of wine and the culture of wine including the "French Paradox: the Health Benefits of Wine Drinking." You will walk away understanding how to read a wine label, you will be able to distinguish the Varietal Profiles like Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. You will also receive an Intro to the 4 s of Wine Sensory Evaluation.
Course 2: Enjoying Wine with Food – Let your Palate Be Your Guide
Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 1-2:30 pm
We will teach you to "Throw out the Rules and let your palate be the guide." Discussion will include Serving Temperature considerations, understanding Why to Pair Cheese with Wine, and pairing Wine by the "Body" of Foods. This course will include special guest speaker Schel Kidd from the Wine House in Sheboygan Falls, WI, a real pro in the area of food & wine pairing.
Course 3: Sensory Evaluation of Wine – Let your Eyes, Nose and Mouth be Your Guide

Have you ever wanted to rattle off wine aromas like a pro (" I smell hints of citrus and vanilla with a grassy undertone.") This course will take you on a sensory tour of wine. You will learn how to use your senses in relation to the 4 Ss of Wine Evaluation, we will study the Wine Aroma Wheel and let you experience many of these aromas for your self , in addition to learning how to create your own "Wine Aroma Box."
Course 4: Understanding Wine Varietals and using your knowledge to Host Your Own Wine Tasting Party Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 1-2:30pm
This course will provide you with all the fun information you need to impress your friends with your very own Wine Tasting Party. We will discuss various grape varietals from the know to the new, then we will cover the elements of Blind Tastings, Themes for Wine Tasting Parties(by world region, by wine style), a brief review of the 5S's of Wine Sensatory Evaluation, Breathing and Decanting and complementary Wine Tips.
