The Parallel 44 Vineyard
Parallel 44 Wisconsin Vineyard & Winery - Located adjacent to the Green Bay, Door County and Fox Valley areas
Why grow grapes in Northeast Wisconsin?
Because we can!! Our vineyard is planted with cool-climate grape varietals that were created to survive our cold winters, yet make award winning wines. It is our passion to grow wines that reflect the terroir of Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest.
The right soil and wonderful sun exposure add to the feasibility of producing high quality wine grown from Wisconsin grapes.
Our Progress
To date we have planted 5000 vines of which 60 % are white varietals and 40% are red varietals. We plan to eventually expand the current vineyard from 8.5 acres to 25 acres.
The varietals that are planted to date are Marechal Foch, Frontenac, Louise Swenson, La Crosse, St. Pepin, St. Croix, Vignoles, and Seyval.
The Harvest...
On September 22, 2007 Parallel 44 enjoyed its first harvest. Over 30 friends and family members came together to pick 13,000 pounds of grapes. The grapes have now been fermented, aged and meticulously crafted into our two Estate wines; Rosso 44 - a medium bodied oak-aged Foch red and Meditation Wine - a ruby Frontenac Port-like wine. These wines were released in April 2008.
Harvest 2007 was a day filled with laughter, work, good food and of course ... wine. Thank you to friends and family who stayed until the end and made our harvest a great success.
The Harvest Again ...
At Parallel 44 we enjoyed our 2nd Harvest on September 27, 2008. This was a day even more spectacular than last year - if that is possible. This time, 48 friends and family appeared ready to harvest! Thank you all for your hard work!!
We picked until our hands were purple, but fun was had by all!
And We Harvested Again ... the Summer of 2009 brought with it special challenges. With one of the coldest Summers on records, a warm September saved our grapes and gave us a record harvest. We also were able to harvest our St. Pepin grapes this year to create a late harvest wine.
